VDRA Ford '33

This is a 3d model I created for the Hum3d "Flying cars" contest.
I imagined a vertical drag racing league (VDRA - Vertical Drag Racing Association) that uses rocket-powered vehicles to shoot straight up in racing.
The long roots of drag racing, and Bonneville salt flats racing gave the idea for using something vaguely resembling a 1933 Ford coupe.
Some racing equipment and two rocket engines later it's ready to race! The car launches directly vertical, and after fuel runs out, it glides down with a large parachute - there are two large cans on the rear to house these.

A bit more cool light setup.

First render of this project. The shape came out pretty quickly, I didn't have much time to iterate anyway.

A quick sketch on top of 3d. Engine main parts, and details eventually differed from this.

There's some simple interior and seat too. They're mostly blocky placeholders.

Doors open too! Some early renders on engine etc. details coming together.
